Calculation Basis
Assumptions & Limits
- Preset values speed up the setup but do not replace final section or material verification.
- The page is designed for fast deflection and reaction checks.
- Local code rules, long-term effects, and connection details still need separate review.
Reference Basis
- Documentation: Methodology
- Documentation: Engineering Review
- Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain
- Mechanics of Materials references
I-Joist Reference Setup
| Product family | Engineered wood I-joist |
| Elastic modulus basis | 10 GPa reference preset |
| Example depth | 302 mm nominal joist depth |
| Example stiffness I | 8200 cm^4 |
| Typical application | Floor joist framing |
| Preset support case | Simply supported joist |
| Preset loading | Uniform floor load |
Engineering Notes
- I-joists are highly product-specific, so this page works best as a quick elastic check before switching to the exact manufacturer table.
- The default setup uses floor loading because that is a common case for engineered wood joists.
- For real joist specification, vibration, bearing length, web openings, and manufacturer span tables should override any generic preset.
