Calculation Basis
MethodElastic beam theory with page-specific preset values
ScopeTimber or engineered wood preliminary review
ReviewTechnically reviewed: 2026-04-15

Assumptions & Limits

  • Preset values speed up the setup but do not replace final section or material verification.
  • The page is designed for fast deflection and reaction checks.
  • Local code rules, long-term effects, and connection details still need separate review.

Engineering Notes
  • C24 timber members are often checked for floors, roofs, and joists where serviceability can govern before strength does.
  • This page uses an example rectangular section so the stiffness input is meaningful out of the box, but the inertia should still be replaced with the real timber size in use.
  • For timber design work, long-term creep, vibration, bearing, and connection performance often matter as much as instantaneous elastic deflection.
